University of Hawaii’s Overseas Programs

When deciding to go abroad internationally during your time at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, students have two main program options. You can either decide to go on an exchange program with Manoa International Exchange (MIX) or go study abroad through the Study Abroad Center (SAC). To learn more about the differences in these programs refer to this page

In my case I went abroad through an exchange program with the Manoa International Exchange (MIX) program. Here was my process for applying with MIX.

For undergraduate students MIX requires students to be enrolled in a undergraduate program full-time student (12+ credits) at UH Mānoa, have completed at least two semesters (24 credit minimum) prior to departure, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. However, depending on your chosen institutions additional requirments may be required, please refer to MIX’s How to Apply page for more information.

MIX requires applications to be submitted far in advanced for their processing. For summer term, fall semester, and year long programs applications they open up on August 1st and are due on December 1st the year prior to when you plan to go abroad. While for spring semetser programs the applications open up January 1st and are due May 1st.

After submitting you applications to MIX, the next steps are to wait until you receive you MIX acceptance and nomination to one of the partner insititutions. This process usually takes 1-2 months, which then leads you into the partner institution application.
