Week 1 & 2 (2/20 to 3/6)

Week 1: Starting off Study Abroad
My first week in South Korea started with what felt like one of the longest travel days of my life, going from Honolulu to Seattle and finally landing in Seoul.
After that, the days that followed consisted of exploring Seoul, moving into the Yonsei dorms, and meeting new people.
On the first full day in South Korea, Michelle (a fellow Shidler student & Freeman recipient) and I decided to explore the infamous Hongdae. We took the train from Guro, which was the area our hotel was in, and walked around both Hongdae and Yeonnam. We got some food, went window shopping, got a caricature done of us, and took a super cute photobooth photo to commemorate the start of our study abroad adventures.
The next day it was time to move into the Yonsei dorms! Michelle and I were a little bit away from Yonsei so we had decided to take an Uber and let me tell you Ubers/Taxis in Korea are so much more affordable then they are back home it is so great! But after we moved-in and got a bit settled into our dorms, we decided to explore Yonsei’s very beautiful and iconic campus, as well as walk around the neighborhood Yonsei is located in, Sinchon!
After move-in, the rest of the days for the first couple weeks in Korea consisted of going to brunch with a couple random girls that a met in my dorm elevator, going to IKEA for the first time, shopping in Seongsu, and experiencing the true Korea experience by getting KBBQ and singing karaoke with a bunch of new friends!
Week 2: First Concert in Korea
The second week in Korea wasn’t as eventful. Much of my time spent during the second week in Korea was spent eating and cafe hopping. However, what I believe will be one of the highlights of my entire study abroad experience was getting to see my FAVORITE Korean band, Wave To Earth, in concert. They have been in my top artists on Spotify for years already, and they were one of the only Korean artists I really wanted to see while being abroad…AND I GOT TO SEE THEM! It was truly so surreal and definitely is a highlight of being in Korea.
Another thing that also happened was that I got to experience my first snow…kinda. While out with friends one night, it was raining, and all of a sudden, while walking in the rain, it was snowing. This was actually very exciting because I had never experienced snow before, being from Hawaii, so it definitely was a moment to remember. However, I was informed that the “snow” I was experiencing was more like sleet, so definitely not as exciting, but still, it was close enough.
